Professor Raymond Muganga
Manager Quality Control Laboratory - Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority, and Chairperson of NAPRECA (Natural Products Research Network for East and Central Africa) Rwanda chapter
MUGANGA Raymond obtained his M. Pharm degree in Pharmacology in 2004 from the University of Western Cape (South Africa), and his PhD in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2012 from the University of Liège (Belgium). He completed three Postdoctoral fellowships in 2013, 2015 and 2018 in Belgium on quality control of herbal medicines. Associate Professor of Phytomedicine, he previously worked at the University of Rwanda since 2001 where he served as the Head of Pharmacy Department (2005-2007), and the Coordinator of Training at the EAC Regional Center of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunization and Health Supply Chain Management (2021-2022). He also served as Visiting lecturer at the University of Liège in Belgium, and as External Examiner at
the University of Nairobi in Kenya. He was the Chairperson of Rwanda National Pharmacy Council since 2013 (2013 – 2019). His present position is that of the Manager Quality Control Laboratory
at Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority, and Chairperson of NAPRECA (Natural Products Research Network for East and Central Africa) Rwanda chapter. Raymond’s areas of interest are Traditional
Medicine, phytomedicines, rational use and quality control of medicines, clinical pharmacy and pharmacometrics. Some of his on-going researches are: Addressing the controversy around
malaria treatment and prevention using Artemisia medicinal plants, and a clinical trial to compare the efficacy, safety and tolerability of Triple Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies versus
first-line ACTs + placebo for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Africa.
